Conferment of honorary doctoral degrees

The honorary doctoral degrees of UiO (doctor honoris causa) is given to prominent, mostly foreign, academics. It is awarded without the candidate having passed a dissertation in disputes. Since 1824 UiO has been entitled to appoint honorary doctorates. They are usually appointed every three years at UiO's annual festival on September 2.
