Dr Gunn-Elin Aa. Bjørneboe was appointed Director of the University of Oslo in 2007. The University Director is appointed by the University Board.

The University Director is the highest administrative official at the university.
He or she shall in consultation with the Rector prepare and advise on matters to be dealt with by the Board, and is responsible for the implementation of Board resolutions. As a general rule, communication between the Rector (the Board) and the administration shall proceed via the University Director.
