Objectives
The aim of this training is to make you more confident on how to behave in Norway and to reduce the risk of cultural misunderstandings. Achieve better results and a more problem-free communication with Norwegians through increased cultural awareness!
You may expect the course to:
- increase your awareness of the cultural differences
- help you bridge the culture gap between Norwegian culture and your own
- reduce communication issues/problems
- boost the quality of your work results
Content
The course explains how Norwegians think and act in different situations, both at the university, in a business setting and at home. It highlights typical scenarios in which cultural differences come to the surface, and you will learn what Norwegians expect from you.
The course will cover the following topics:
- Some information about Norway
- Body language and how we judge others
- The most important cultural differences
- What you can expect when working with Norwegians
- Typical scenarios with hints and tips

International researchers and staff at UiO who have recently arrived in Norway.

Course fee
The course is offered free of charge to UiO employees.
Included in the training is a light meal (pizza served at 17:30).
Course leader
Karin Ellis
CEO of Ellis Culture and Consulting (ellisculture.com)
Karin has several years’ experience in running courses both for foreigners working with Norwegians, and for Norwegians working with persons from other cultures.
Before becoming a trainer, Karin worked in international companies for many years. Her trainings are thus based on practical experience from diverse environments.
