Practical matters

The following practical matters should be taken care of as soon as possible once you have started work at UiO:

IT user account

To gain access to the University’s IT resources, you will need an IT user account with a user name and a password. Your local IT support will be able to assist you with this.

Persons who are not formally employed at UiO may also have an IT user account if they meet certain conditions. Contact the administrative head of the department you are affiliated with to initiate the appropriate application process.

Employee card

Everyone employed at UiO for three months or more shall have their own employee card with their name, photo and signature. The card serves as an identity card, a key card, a library card at the University Library and an access card to the Student Sports facilities.

This is how you get a card:

  • ID-cards are only available to employees who’s personal data, including a Norwegian Identity Number, has been registered in SAPUiO (the central personnel and salary data base). Contact the administrative head at your department in this regard.
  • ID-cards are issued by the SiO Centre (SiOsenteret) located adjecant to the Academica bookstore in Kristian Ottosens hus on Blindern campus (map).
Office hours: Monday – Friday 09:00-17:00.
We recommend that you visit the Centre on Mondays 08:00-09:00 as this hour is reserved for UiO employees in need of an ID card which usually means reduced waiting time.
  • Bring a valid ID-document with you (e.g. passport or Norwegian credit card).
  • A photograph will be taken of you at SiO Center.

Note: If you loose your card, you must immediately inform the Security Center at 22 85 50 07 which will cancel your card. The Security Center will issue a new card for you.

While you are waiting for your employee card or if you are not employed at UiO for a minimum of three months you may obtain a lending card (utlånskort) from the unit you are affiliated with. A lending card does not contain any personal data and its function is limited to provide access to buildings and rooms. The card must be returned to the issuing unit upon conclusion of affiliation.

Tax deduction card

Your tax deduction card must be sent as soon as possible to the Pay Section.

The Pay Section will deduct 50% tax from all taxable income until they receive your tax deduction card. Any excess tax deducted will be refunded once the tax deduction card has been received.
