Why internationalisation?
We wish to focus on internationalisation for several reasons. Student exchanges help ensure the quality of education, while the exchange of researchers is an important aspect of efforts to maintain and strengthen the quality of research.
Access to internationally leading competence and technology is crucial for a university that aims to be among the best in the world.
Simultaneously, the large global challenges within such diverse areas as climate, environment, energy, health, and conflicts require research collaboration across disciplinary, institutional and national borders. (Excerpt from the Rector's blog)
Action Plan
The Internationalisation Year shall help ground UiO's high ambitions and help develop a common understanding of UiO's international position. The Year shall also contribute to a demonstration of what UiO has achieved and provide motivation based on these achievements. Not least, 2012 shall mark the start of UiO's Action Plan for Internationalisation 2012-2014 (pdf):
Four focus areas:
- Mobilising for global challenges
- Strategic collaborations
- International profile in programmes of study and research training
- Competence and capacity for internationalisation
