Quality assurance at the University of Oslo

The University of Oslos quality assurance system comprises a unified set of elements intended to ensure and improve the quality of education at the university. The QA system covers all education at UiO, including doctoral education and further education.

The purposes of UiO’s quality assurance system are:

  • to contribute to the achievement of the goals defined for the educational activities and the learning environment.
  • to reveal flaws and recognize the strong points of instruction and training.
  • to serve as a tool for systematic efforts for quality assurance and quality improvement.

The process of quality assurance

In Norway, all higher education institutions are required to have a quality assurance system. The national regulations for quality assurance are laid down by the Ministry of Education and the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT).

The Norwegian regulations are based on the European standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education defined by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
