The University has contributed to international research through four Nobel prizes and participation in international networks and consortia within a wide range of scientific disciplines.

Active participation in the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for research and development, and involvement in developing ERA is important for UiO.
International research cooperation
The University's strategic plan for 2010–2020 states that collaboration with prioritised countries in other parts of the world must be strengthened, also with selected institutions in the south.
