Research Schools at the University of Oslo

University of Oslo has 20 research schools as of January 1, 2010. The university is also the host institution for the three national research schools and participating in several other national research schools.

The research schools vary in size and scope. The schools will offer courses and workshops for PhD candidates and create a dynamic and committed professional and social community. PhD candidates at the research schools are generally expected to be admitted to the a PhD programme at the university.

Overview of the research schools at the University of Oslo

The research school regulations are currently under revision. Proposed new guidelines for the establishment and operation of research schools will be presented to the Research Committee on June 17. The aim is to announce the new guidelines for research school funding in early fall, establishing the new research schools by the end of 2010. The announcement will be posted on this website.

The announcement will be open to those academic units that currently hold a research school status, as well as those wishing to apply for the first time. The current research schools will keep their status up to and including November 30, 2010.
