About MILEN

Environmental change and sustainable energy (MILEN) is an interfaculty research area at the University of Oslo. The participant units are:

Faculty of Social Science
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science
Faculty of Law
Centre for Development and Environment (SUM)

CIENS is represented with an observer in the steering committee and a member in the academic advisory council.

MILEN covers a wide range of topics related to the theory and policies of achieving sustainable energy, but will also cover environmental issues not directly related to energy production and consumption. Climate change will be an important topic for the research area because energy use and climate change are closely related.

MILENs goal is to facilitate interfaculty and interdisciplinary research on environmental change and sustainable energy and to strengthen the University of Oslo’s renome as an important contributor to the work in solving important energy and environmental challenges, both nationally and globally.

Another important aim is improving competence of university researchers in working across disciplines. This will be accomplished through the encouragement of cooperation at workshops, seminars, and conferences, as well as through the development of multidisciplinary courses at the PhD and masters level.
