Funding of «konvergensmiljø» starts with workshops in September

To support the UiO life sciences strategy UiO:Life Science will fund several «konvergensmiljø» – research groups with collaboration across conventional disciplinary boundaries. The application process starts with workshops with speed dating September 28 and 29. Save the dates for the workshops, and propose topics for the speed dating!

Advisory management team established

A newly established advisory management team shall ensure that the director for UiO:Life Science gets input from people with different points of view and experiences in the continuing work with the priority area.

Administrative leader hired

Morten Egeberg who has many years of experience for the biotechnology industry and education in life sciences, will be the administrative leader for UiO:Life Science. He looks forward to starting to work on building a stronger culture of innovation in life sciences at the university.

Building news

Join a virtual 3D tour in the life sciences building

Watch the tour in 3D on your smartphone using VR glasses. You may also join the tour without VR glasses.

The pre-project for the planned life sciences building will be handed over to the Ministry of Education and Research this summer. See the timeline for the building (in Norwegian).

Oslo Life Science February 16–17 2017 
– save the dates!

This will be the 2nd conference hosted by UiO:Life Science for all of you who are interested in research, education, innovation, business and politics in life sciences. Oslo University Hospital and the Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Norway (LMI) are co-organisers.

  • September 28 at Kulturhuset (in Norwegian):
    – Green revolution – academia's place in the green transition
    Collaboration between green student organisations at UiO, the Student Parliament at UiO and the three large priority areas at UiO, UiO:Life Science, UiO:Energy and UiO:Nordic. The event is part of UiO Forskningsdagene. 
  • September 28 and 29 at UiO
    Workshops for funding of interdisciplinary research groups.
  • October 21 at the Science Library:
    Life Science Lunch on gene editing with CRISPR
  • November 16 at the Science Library
    Life Science Lunch on cancer and stem cells

Visit UiO:Life Science at conference stands 2016

  • NLSDays September 14–15
    UiO:Life Science and life sciences clusters and organisations will have a stand promoting Norwegian healthcare and life science industry, at Nordic Life Science Days (NLSDays) in Stockholm.
  • Cutting Edge Festival October 18
    UiO is main partner of the Cutting Edge Festival that is arranged as part of Oslo Innovation Week. The festival showcases the latest in science, technology and entrepreneurship. Several of UiO's life sciences researchers are giving talks, and you can visit the UiO:Life Science stand and watch our new 3D tour of the planned life sciences building.

Video from guest lecture June 2 on mapping human embryo development

Fredrik Lanner from Karolinska Institutet presented the work leading up to the recent publication on gene expression in early human embryos, and presented his plans to use CRISPR technology to edit genes in early human embryos, as one of the first researchers in the world. Man is not a mouse!, therefore we have to do research on human embryos, was is take home message.
