Registration with the police for EU/EEA citizens

Students with EU/EEA citizenship need to register with the Oslo Police if staying for more than 3 months. We recommend that you register on the UDI portal after arrival in Oslo, and hand in your documents to Knutepunktet during semester start.

Students arriving in August

In order to receive a registration certificate from the Oslo Police:

  1. Register at the online UDI application portal 
    • Create a new user account. You will receive an email to activate your account.
    • Choose "Go to EU/EEA registration"
    • Select "Oslo police district, Service Center for foreign workers" when you are asked to choose a police station.
  2. Make a copy of:
    • Passport or National ID-card
    • European Health Insurance Card or proof of other private health insurance coverage. Must be valid for the whole period you are staying in Norway.
    • Print-out of from UDI's self service page that proves that you have registered
    • Admission letter (can be found in Studentweb under "Documents").
    • Fill out the form "Decleration of funds for EU/EEA Citizens" at Knutepunktet. This is a written declaration that you have sufficient funds for your period of stay.
  3. Hand in the copies together with the printout of your online application to Knutepunktet - International Student Reception

The deadline to submit your documents to Knutepunktet is 25 August.

Please note that Nordic citizens do not have to register with the Police.

When to collect the registration certificate

You can collect the certificate at Knutepunktet - International Student Reception approx. 3 weeks after you have handed in your documents.

Late-arriving students

  1. Register at the online UDI application portal
  2. Make an appointment with the Oslo Police. Choose: Oslo, Service Centre for Foreign Workers
  3. You must bring with you copies of the following documents to the police:
    • Admission letter
    • Passport or National ID-card
    • European Health Insurance Card or proof of other private health insurance coverage
    • Admission letter (can be found in Studentweb under "Documents").
    • Fill out the form "Decleration of funds for EU/EEA Citizens" at Knutepunktet. This is a written declaration that states that the student has sufficient funds for the period of stay in Norway.

Students with dual citizenship (EU passport and non-EU passport) must register with the police either:
