Illness before or during exams
It's time for exams and you are ill or have another valid reason not to take the exam. What do you do? To avoid using up an exam attempt, you must submit a medical certificate or similar documentation to the faculty.
If you become ill before an exam
- Seek medical attention right away when you get sick if you believe your illness will persist until the exam date.
- Deliver or send the medical certificate to the faculty no later than 3 days after the first exam to which it applies. (At the Faculty of Science, the deadline is one week after the exam.)
- It should be clear from the medical certificate that you cannot take the exam because of illness and the period to which it applies.
- If someone you care for is ill, if there has been a death in your family or if there are other strong reasons for not sitting the exam, this may also be approved as valid reasons for absence.
If you become ill during an exam
- Notify the supervising invigilator in the exam room.
- Do not hand in your exam papers. If you do so the exam attempt will not be annulled.
- See your doctor the same day, using the student health service if possible. If you cannot get an appointment here or elsewhere you must use the emergency medical service.
- Deliver or send the medical certificate to the faculty as soon as possible within 3 days after the exam. (At the Faculty of Science, the deadline is one week after the exam.)
- It should be clear from the medical certificate that you could not complete the exam because of your illness or that your condition became much worse after the exam started.
- If someone you care for is ill, if there has been a death in your family or if there are other strong reasons for not sitting the exam, this may also be approved as valid reasons for absence.
