History
How exactly did human beings live in China 2000 years ago, in Paris 200 years ago or in Norway 20 years ago? This programme will provide you with knowledge of the past, of the diversity of human forms of life and ways of thinking through the ages. How can we know about the past? What methods are used to create a picture of what may have happened? What is the role of history today?
The programme offers in-depth study of such areas as the Roman Empire, monastic life in the Middle Ages, views of humanity in the age of enlightenment, the slave trade between Africa and America, and war and conflict in modern times. You may supplement your specialized area of interest with language study or other courses in the humanities and social sciences. You will learn how historians do their craft and about different approaches to historical knowledge. Furthermore you will be invited to reflect upon the role played by historical writing and uses of history today.
One goal of this programme is that students learn to read critically, to write precisely and to select for consideration important material in historical and other texts. This programme emphasizes on following students' academic progression.
