About the course group

Modern Scandinavia 2 offers a basic introduction to a series of topics concerning Norwegian society, such as Norwegian history, geography, political system, foreign policy, economics, welfare state, religion, judicial system, and the role of the family in Norwegian society, The course group also covers Norwegian visual arts, culture, and identity and will provide a broader introduction to Norwegian authors and their works. Finally, particular focus will be placed on perspectives on the works of Edvard Munch, including a critical discussion on how his work was received, both in Norway and abroad. This will be done through a combination of lectures and presentations in the Art Collection of the National Gallery, the Study Room at the Department of Prints and Drawings (also in National Gallery) and the Munch Museum.
