*Elective course means either a course in gender studies or a course from the specialisation of the student`s bachelor`s programme.
Students will be able to choose different courses based on their disciplinary background and interests, and also on entry requirements for further studies (PhD-level). All the obligatory courses in the master`s degree are taught in English but students have the option to choose courses taught in Norwegian as elective courses.

The model is flexible, with different course combinations. Below is an outline of two examples, focusing on different orientations for the final master thesis.

A). Course combination: Gender studies with specialisation from another discipline
Here the student will be able to combine gender studies with their discipline from specialisation of their BA. Students select 20 credits obligatory master`s courses from this discipline (the courses must be chosen in agreement with the centre), 1 obligatory thesis course KFL4000 and 2 obligatory gender courses KFL4040 and KFL4050 . Plus one elective gender course. On top of this is the master thesis KFL4090 that will combine gender and discipline.

B). Course combination: Gender equality
This combination gives the students broad competence within the gender equality field. The master thesis should be connected to problems within the gender equality field, and can be written within a project-based framework.

Depending on which courses the student has in advance, there will be several courses in gender equality to choose from e.g. JUS5590 Diskriminering og likestillingsrett, SOS4100 Ulikhet: klasse, kjønn og etnisitet, SOS4400 Nære relasjoner i endring, or KFL4060 Gender equality in the Nordic Countries. KFL4060 should be included in the combination unless KFL2060 has been taken during the BA The course combination must be approved by the programme before the student starts.
The master KFL4090 thesis comes in addition.
