Student housing and classes in Norwegian language
Housing
Nordic citizens and citizens who are residing in Norway may apply for student housing, but students residing outside the Nordic countries are given priority. In most cases, students from the Nordic countries/residents of Norway must find housing on their own (private market). For student housing you will have to apply to The Foundation for Student Life in Oslo (Studentsamskipnaden – SiO). The earlier you apply, the better chance you have to get a room from August!
Language classes
At the University of Oslo it is the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies who are offering classes in Norwegian language.
Nordic citizens and citizens who are residing in Norway can only apply to paid courses. It is only those who have been accepted as international students (have applied either as a quota scheme or self-financed student) at the University of Oslo who can apply to the free courses. In general it is international students who have applied to a bachelor programme at the University of Oslo who are given priority.
