Justification of examination results and appeals

If you think the evaluation of your exam has been unfair, you have the right to ask for a justification of the examination result and/or to appeal. Please note that most results are not altered after an appeal, so it is important that you have a good reason for your appeal. It is also important to keep in mind that an appeal also can result in a lower grade than what was originally given. An appeal must be requested no more than 3 weeks after the exam results has been published

When the examination results are announced, there will also be announced a list of the examiners email addresses in the reception on the 7th floor.

The Process of Justifications

  • The student must ask for a justification within one week after the examination results are published. The student must contact the examiner by email. Remember your candidate number.

  • The student must ask the examiner to write his/her signature, together with the date of the justification, on the appeal form. This is also the case if you received an oral justification.

  • If the student contacts the examiner by email, the reply will function as a receipt.

  • All students shall receive the justification within three weeks after the results were announced. If you have not heard from the examinator within 3 weeks, the student must notify the Programme/Department of Political Science immediately.

The Process of Appealing

  • The deadline for an appeal is three weeks after the results were announced or three weeks after the justification was received.

  •  If the student wishes to appeal after a justification is given, the student must submit a written appeal form. This must be sent or handed in to the Programme/Department of Political Science within three weeks after the student received the justification.

  • A student can appeal without first requesting a justification. This must be done on the appeal form which must be sent or handed in to the Programme/Department of Political Science within three weeks after the results are announced.

  • Incomplete appeals or appeals not written on the appeal form will not be accepted.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to notify the Programme/Department of Political Science if the student, for some reason, has not received the justification within three weeks of the day the results were announced. If the Programme/Department is not notified, the deadline for appealing will run out.

After having appealed

  • Two new examiners will be appointed to the appeal commission. One of them will be an external examiner.

  • The appeal will be sent to the appeal commission for review.

  • The appeal commission will have access to the student’s justification for appealing, the justification given to the student by the original examiners and to the original examination result. The name of the student will not be known.

  • The appeal commission will decide whether the grade will be altered or not.

  • The decision of the appeal commission is final. It cannot be appealed.

  • It will normally take three weeks from the appeal is submitted until the result is given.
