Masterprogrammet i psykologi har fem studieretninger med ulike opptakskrav. Informasjon om kravene finnes under de ulike studieretningene:

SØKNADSPROSESSEN 2012 TRINN FOR TRINN

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: Only the Cognitive Neuroscience programme is taught in English and welcomes international applicants as well as Norwegian/Nordic applicants. The other four disciplines require proficiency in Norwegian (Bergenstest or equivalent).

Please note that the Master of Philosophy in Psychology is a theoretically oriented education of two years which does not give you an authorization to practice as a clinical psychologist in Norway. To become a clinical psychologist you have to apply for the profession oriented degree programme (6 years education) which is taught only in Norwegian (Bergenstest is needed).

Structure and accomplishment

Masterprogrammet i psykologi er et fulltidsstudie over 2 år (120 studiepoeng). Det er opptak én gang i året - hver høst.
Programmet har fem studieretninger. Strukturen på retningene varierer noe i programmets første år, men de har det til felles at det andre året er viet masteroppgaven.

Teaching and examinations

Time and location

Time and place for the teachin will be announced via the individual course description pages.

Teaching and learning methods

A wide range of different teaching and study activities takes place in the master's programme. Apart from traditional lectures, teachingseminars, student-driven workshops, projects, and diary-writing are among the activities students will take
part in.

The 3rd and 4rth semester of study is devoted to thesis work. Here the student will work individually on a research project in collaboration with a supervisor.

The teaching and study activities in the Master's programme will vary from course to course. More details will be given in the individual course descriptions.

Compulsory attendance

Many activities on the first-year courses are obligatory. Please see the individual course descriptions for details.

Language

The teaching will be given in english only on the Neuroscience dicipline, and in some of the other courses. For the three other disciplines, the main teaching language is norwegian.

Forms of examination and assessment

A wide range of different assessment forms will be used, from traditional written exams to home exams and oral presentations.

Language of examination

The language of examination is mainly norwegian, with some exeptions. On the Neuroscience discipline the language is english. Please see the course descriptions for details.

Grading scale

The programme contains both courses using the pass/fail scale and courses using the grading scale with five steps from A to E for pass and F for fail, cf. § 6.1 i Forskrift om studier og eksamener ved Universitetet i Oslo (Norwegian only). Each course description provides more information about the grading scale in use.

Diploma

The diploma is issued when you have completed the combination of courses which fulfill the degree requirements. The diploma is issued in English. With the diploma, you also receive a Diploma Supplement, providing more information about the degree and about the Norwegian system of higher education. A semester abroad

Parts of the study programme may be taken abroad. Some students will do field work abroad, others will take courses at a partner institution. Please contact the programme administration for further details about the possibilities of a period abroad.

Det er mulig å reise på utveksling i løpet av Masterprogrammet i psykologi. Vi anbefaler å reise i 3. og/eller 4.semester i forbindelse med masteroppgaven. Det er viktig at du da reiser til et universitet der de kan veilede deg på ditt masterprosjekt. Slik utveksling avtales med studieretningsansvarlig. Du vil ha mulighet til å reise på instituttets avtaler eller andre avtaler som UiO har. Studiekonsulenten på programmet kan kontaktes for mer informasjon om dette.

Quality assurance

The University of Oslo aims at offering an innovative and relevant education with the best teaching and tuition possible. It is therefore important that you as a student give us feedback and contribute to evaluations of your programme and courses.

The programme of study is regularly evaluated to ensure and develop the quality of the programme:

  • Each year, the programme management conducts a review to assess whether the objectives of the programme have been met. External programme supervisors monitor examinations and assessment.
  • At least every fourth year, the faculty conducts a more thorough evaluation of the programme. External representatives take part in the evaluation panel.
  • Courses in the programme are evaluated regularly, according to a schedule decided by the faculty.

After completion / career opportunities

The Master’s Degree in Psychology will produce candidates with a wide range of applicability. Some graduates will progress into careers in research, by joining the Ph.D program.

Others will take jobs in the public and private sectors as health administrators, teachers, government officials or management consultants. Some master program candidates can be found in recruitement companies working closely with HR professionals.
