This programme will strengthen and develop your capacity to respond particularly to persons with disabilities and special needs, including policymaking and legislation. Possible areas of employment include:

  • Governments
  • Universities
  • Non-governmental organisations
  • International development agencies and multilateral corporations in need of personnel with advanced knowledge in special and inclusive education

Several of our former students have continued their previous careers as teachers, teacher trainers, lecturers, policymakers and managers at a higher level after completing this master's programme.

Successful completion of the master's programme also gives students the possibility to continue studies at doctoral level providing all other admission criteria are fulfilled.

Former students

Hendra Agustian (Teacher, Indonesia)

My first degree was chemistry, but after years of experience in teaching, including students with special needs, I decided to build my career in education. On completion of the programme, I am now starting my PhD at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. The experience that I got from the MA at Roehampton has tremendously benefited this further step. I am now familiar with the process of educational research, and the topic of my MA research has also been useful in preparing the ground for my PhD. I would definitely recommend this programme.

Helma van de Put-Claassen (Teacher, Netherlands)

The programme was very good for me, I improved academic skills that I can use in my work as a manager, such as writing, thinking and working more efficiently. Having international students as daily company was very inspiring and it provided me with insight into educational systems and the broad spectrum of Inclusion throughout the world. Nowadays I feel like an ambassador – my thoughts and intentions are on giving children better chances to learn and be educated in the best possible circumstances.

Sulabha KarunanidhI (Senior Manager, Special School, India)

The conglomeration of multicultural classmates, eminent professors, and the curriculum shaped me into a global citizen. Studying in a completely different educational culture taught me that knowledge outweighs prejudice. Currently as the president of Erasmus Mundus Alumni Association (EMA) Indian Chapter, I am promoting Erasmus Mundus across India by organising events and encouraging students to apply, realise and reap the fruit of European education!

Greystone Jennyson Alindiamao (Teacher trainer, Malawi)

With this degree, I had an internationalised education and I was turned into an active global citizen. I enjoyed learning to become a leader who serves, works together with others, and advocates for the rights of people with special needs. I have a special focus in training specialist teachers of the deaf and assisting people on ear and hearing care in an audiology clinic in Malawi as part of my job.
