Objectives of the master’s courses
Students will acquire an interdisciplinary understanding of the culture of the Viking and the Nordic Middle Ages. They will be able to apply a critical approach to sources, to ”read” both objects and texts, and to assess texts and objects in a cultural historical context.
Objectives of the Master’s thesis
The Master’s thesis should consist of 70-100 pages, assessed at 60 credits. The specialisation in the field gained during the student’s undergraduate studies serves as a point of departure, to which students will then be required to apply an interdisciplinary perspective. Research questions could e.g. be discussed according to various theoretical approaches or on the basis of different source material. An important aim of the Master’s thesis is that students develop the competence to use the available evidence and to relate their work to various theoretical approaches. Ideally, the Master’s thesis should therefore be a synthesis between studies of theory and interpretation of sources.
