ISS Buddy

Come and participate in our global community as an ISS Buddy. We welcome all interested persons, regardless of nationality, background or religion.

ISS Buddy

We need you to:

  • Assist our Activity Coordinators with one (or more) of our 42+ activities
  • Be available to our students to answer their questions about Norway and the Norwegian experience while volunteering

In return, we offer:

  • A free meal just before or after the activity you volunteer for
  • Access to all of our local activities for the entire summer (does not include the weekend excursions)
  • Reference letter from ISS
  • The chance to meet the most diverse student body at Blindern campus

How it works

First, the Buddy System Committee will hold a orientation meeting about the multicultural campus and cultural sensitivity.

Second, we ask you to sign up to assist with different activities. As an ISS Buddy, you will assist the Activities Coordinators with their duties. This means anything from guiding students around Sognsvann, to showing them the way from Blindern to the Munch Museum or helping out at the big show. While you are on duty as an ISS Buddy, you will wear a UiO t-shirt, follow the instructions of the Activities Coordinators and make yourself available the ISS students.

Third, we would like you to have fun. Once you have volunteered for an event as an ISS Buddy, then you can join any of our events socially.  When you are not on duty as an ISS Buddy, you will not wear the UiO t-shirt and will not be asked to assist the Activities Coordinators.

The fine print

You cannot be enrolled at the ISS and participate in the ISS Buddy programme at the same time.
