Sociological research methods in digital learning environments
Bård Ketil Engen
Summary
The article discusses the process related to the development of digital teaching aids to be used in the teaching of qualitative methodology at the Department of Sociology and Social Geography at the University of Oslo (UiO). First of all we describe the purpose of developing computer-based (ICT) teaching aids in the subject of sociology and then we discuss the development project in light of the technological, organizational and pedagogical features that have either promoted or hindered computer-based forms of teaching and learning in our specific practice of teaching. In addition to a concrete and practically-oriented description of the development process from the original concept to the production of specific teaching aids, we also draw on the reflections and experiences of the students. We conclude by reflecting more generally on experience gained from the project in retrospect and on the consequences that this ought to have for the continuation and development of other courses of study in the department.
