Course content
Perspectives on the art of Edvard Munch, including a critical discussion of the reception of his works of art, both in Norway and internationally
Learning outcomes
The course provides candidates with specialised knowledge of Edvard Munch's most central works of art, his background and his significance in Norwegian and European Art History.

Teaching
The course is taught over 28 hours (circa) during a period of 14 weeks.
Combination of lectures and presentations in situ, both in the Painting Collection of the National Gallery, in the Study Room of the Department of Prints and Drawings (also in National Gallery) and the Munch Museum. Additional handouts will be provided to aid the general understanding of the artist.
Some of the museum visits may take place on Saturdays or earlier in the day than the regular lectures, due to the museums opening hours.
The students must hand in an compulsory written assignment and will also be expected to prepare and give two short oral presentations. The written assignment must be approved before the student may take the exam. The assignment will be graded accepted/not accepted, and is valid in the term it is accepted as well as the next two terms the course is taught.

All compulsory assignments must be approved before the student may take the exam.
Language of examination
The language of examination is English. You can apply to the administrators of the course to submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish.

Assessment and grading
Course grades are awarded on a descending scale using alphabetic grades from A to E for passes and F for fail. Read more about the grading system .

Exam options for students with special needs
Students may apply for access to alternative exam resources or exam forms on the basis of chronic illness and/or special needs that create a marked disadvantage to other students in the exam situation. Mothers who are breastfeeding may apply for extra time to complete the exam.
