Course content

The courses under this heading (ENG4451-ENG4459) focus on one or, more often, several works by a single author. Through this concentration on the works of a single author, the courses aim at a deeper understanding of the works that have been selected. The courses aim to develop the students’ analytical and critical awareness in their encounters with literary texts. Texts are chosen from works that invite and richly repay academic study.

Authors studied under this heading include ENG4451 - Virginia Woolf: Fiction and Essays, ENG4452 - Reading Dickens: Texts and afterlives, ENG4453 - Jane Austen: Text and Context, Oscar Wilde, Toni Morrison, Henry James, Eudora Welty, Joseph Conrad, Tennessee Williams and James Baldwin.
