Course content

The course addresses 4 community ecological topics, selected for being under ongoing debate. Recent publications form the basis for the course. The selected topics may change from semster to semester.

Learning outcomes

To update the participants on community ecological topics currently under debate, as well as to assist in development of the analytic skills and critical attitudes of the participants.

The examination in this course is not available for external candidates. Only students admitted to the course may sit for the examination.

Overlap

5 credits against BIO9000 - Community Ecology.

Teaching

The course consists of five meetings during the semester. One new topic will be addressed at each meeting. The topic will be introduced in a lecture given by a teacher. Based on a list of proposed articles, the students shall discuss the topic. The students, divided into groups if necessary, shall give an introductory presentation, which is to be followed by a plenary discussion, to one topic each. One hour of counselling with the teacher is offered in the work with an introductory presentation.

Exam information

Contribution to one introductory presentation (power point, pass/fail) and participation in plenary discussions (based upon mandatory presence).

Assessment and grading

Students are awarded either a passing or a failing grade. Read more about the grading system .

An external auditor regularly evaluates the academic quality of the course, including the form of exam used on the course.

Exam options for students with special needs

Students may apply for access to alternative exam resources or exam forms on the basis of chronic illness and/or special needs that create a marked disadvantage to other students in the exam situation. Mothers who are breastfeeding may apply for extra time to complete the exam.
