Course content

This course presents advanced knowledge in evolution of the Animal kingdom, systematics and phylogeny, and represents a theoretical study in zoological systematics and taxonomy. Special emphasize is given to selected taxa and systematical problems which are under study at the Department of Research and Collections at the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo.

Learning outcomes

The intention is to give the students an insight into biological evolution and systematics in the Animal kingdom, and the species concepts as applied to different taxa of animals. In addition, competence in critical analyses and scientific thinking will be developed during the course.

Prerequisites

Recommended prior knowledge

Bachelor in Biology.

Teaching

Lectures and colloquia on selected themes. Requires active participation in all lectures and colloquia.
The course is taught by the staff at the Natural History Museum.

This course uses Fronter.

Exam information

Mandatory participation in lectures and colloquia, oral presentation on selected literature.
