Course content

The course treats different river-scapes and how to classify, processes in channel patterns and deltas, erosion, sediment transport and accumulation, fluvial sediments and sedimentology, river ice and winter conditions, river restoration, floods and flood risk, flood zonation, water power regulation and consequences of different impacts incl. climate change, environmental runoff, Norwegian river management and fluvial processes in Holocene.

Learning outcomes

The course gives a necessary knowledge of physical processes in rivers in order to work with practical problems in watershed management. It gives introduction to advanced methods and routines in river management practices. It will also attain a scientific curiosity and respect for natural river processes in dealing with consequence analyses of different impacts.

Assessment and grading

Course grades are awarded on a descending scale using alphabetic grades from A to E for passes and F for fail. Read more about the grading system .

An external auditor regularly evaluates the academic quality of the course, including the form of exam used on the course.
