INF-MAT3350 - Numerical linear algebra

Course content
Direct methods for linear equations, matrix norms and condition numbers, orthogonal transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, over determined systems, singular value decomposition, iterative methods for linear systems
Learning outcomes
To give students a good background in numerical methods and further training in linear algebra. The student will learn advanced tools useful for graduate studies in computational science.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisites
In addition to fulfilling the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway, you must either have 2MX/2MY/3MZ from Norwegian upper secondary school, or have completed equivalent studies in mathematics at upper secondary school or university level at another educational institution. Recommended prior knowledge
Basic courses in introductory programming, calculus, and linear algebra
Overlap
10 credits with INF-MAT4350 - Numerical linear algebra and 10 credits with MoD200/IN 227/IN 225

3 hour written final examination, compulsory programming exercises
Possibility of make-up exams and re-takes

Note that the first lecture is compulsory. The subject is regarded equal to MoD200 when practicing exam regulations.
