Course content
Development of information systems. Methods, techniques, computer based development tools, technological platforms. Influence of systems on their environments – individuals, organisations and society
Learning outcomes
After the course, students should understand what it takes to develop an information system: Determination of requirements, stating the various constraints imposed on the development, efficient development and deployment, and managing the system development process.
Furthermore, students will be able to understand some of the complexity of the interaction between software and various user- and groups of interest. Students will have an ability to be critical of modern (eg agile) and traditional methods and technologies for system development. Students will develop an understanding of research methods in system development.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisites
In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:
- Mathematics R1 or Mathematics (S1+S2)
The special admission requirements may also be covered by equivalent studies from Norwegian upper secondary school or by other equivalent studies. Read more about special admission requirements.
Recommended prior knowledge
The course is based on knowledge corresponding to INF1000 - Introduction to object-oriented programming /INF 101/ HUMIT1700 - Grunnkurs i programmering for humanister and INF1040 - Digital Representation /INF 103
Overlap
10 credits INF 102 and 5 credits IN 114/IN 114A/IN 113.
Teaching
2 hours lecturing and 2 hours group work each week. The project includes several mandatory deliverables which must be approved in order to take the exam. Rules for mandatory assignments.

All printed and written material is allowed.
Assessment and grading
Course grades are awarded on a descending scale using alphabetic grades from A to E for passes and F for fail. Read more about the grading system .

An external auditor regularly evaluates the academic quality of the course, including the form of exam used on the course.
Possibility of make-up exams and re-takes
This subject offers new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. Withdrawing from exams and limits on re-takes
The subject is regarded equal to INF102 when practicing exam regulations.
A student can sit for this exam up to 3 times. If a student wishes to withdraw from the exam, s/he must do this in StudentWeb at least two weeks prior to the first day of the exam. Failure to do so will be counted as one of the three opportunities to sit for the exam.
