Course content
The course will run as INF5441 with 10 credits this semester. Register on INF5440 and you will be moved to INF5441.
Image sensors are improving strongly and are utilized in digital cameras within many applications like mobile phones, digital still cameras (DSC) camcorders, in automotive and medical applications, and in industrial production.
The core of the digital camera is the array of light sensing elements pixels (picture element). The advantage with CMOS technology is that the image capturing array can be combined with complex electronic circuits on the same silicon chip in a standard fabrication process.
The course covers light sensitivity of silicon, signal readout methods, color interpolation and image processing, and introduction to optics.
Learning outcomes
The student will understand the physical principles involved in image sensing, be able to design sensors with readout electronics, and gain basic knowledge in color and image processing.
Admission
Students at UiO must apply for courses in StudentWeb.
International applicants, if you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures for international applicants.
The examination in this course is not available for external candidates. Only students admitted to the course may sit for the examination.
Prerequisites
Recommended prior knowledge
Recommended Knowledge in electronics, circuit analysis, analogue CMOS similar to INF3410 - Analog microelectronics/INF4410 - Analog Microelectronics, INF3420 - Prosjekter i analog/mixed-signal CMOS konstruksjon/INF4420 - Projects in analogue/mixed-signal CMOS design, FYS1210 - Elementary electronics with project work and partly FYS3220 - Linear circuit electronics.
Overlap
5 credits INF-CBS.
Teaching
2 hour lecture per week.
Exam information
Oral or written exam. General information about the examination.
Assessment and grading
Course grades are awarded on a descending scale using alphabetic grades from A to E for passes and F for fail. Read more about the grading system .
Possibility of make-up exams and re-takes
This subject does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. For general information about new examination, see http://www.mn.uio.no/studier/admin/eksamen/utsatt-og-ny-eksamen/index.html and http://www.mn.uio.no/english/studies/admin/examination/retaking-examinations/
Withdrawing from exams and limits on re-takes
When practicing exam regulations, the subject is considered equal to INF-CBS.
A student can sit for this exam up to 3 times. If a student wishes to withdraw from the exam, s/he must do this in StudentWeb at least two weeks prior to the first day of the exam. Failure to do so will be counted as one of the three opportunities to sit for the exam.
Other information
It is strongly recommended to attend the first lecture since it will be given important information.
