MBV3050 - Human physiology

Course content
The course provides a comprehensive survey of all parts of mammalian physiology, using the human body as model. The course includes practical labwork introducing principles of physiological experiments on humans and animal preparations.
Learning outcomes
The students will achieve thorough insight into homeostatic mechanisms and the functions of the various organs and organ systems in humans. The students will be able to understand how physiological parameters are measured in humans and animal preparations.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisites
MBV1020 - Physiology and MBV3010 - Advanced cell biology or corresponding.
In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:

- Physics (1+2)
- Chemistry (1+2)
- Biology (1+2)

Recommended prior knowledge
FYS1000 - Physics- the foundation of natural sciences and medicine
Teaching
The course format is lectures, 46h, seminars, 14 h, and labwork,15 h. The labwork and the seminars are compulsory. All students have to write an exam question during the semester (test exam). The test exam and the lab reports must be approved in order for the student to sit the exam. The course material is in English and English seminar and lab groups will be provided when exchange students enroll the course. Some lectures will be given only in Norwegian.
Exam information
Changes may come during the summer.
A final written exam, 3 hours, in december. All the exam questions have to be passed. Allowed examination aids: None. Letter grades (A-F).
This subject offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination.
