ENT4410 - Research-based innovation

Course content

This course builds further on the basic course (ent4400-Innovation strategy and management) in several ways: First, it elaborates in detail some of the concepts introduced briefly in the basic course; Second, it introduces more advanced concepts and innovation processes; Third, it also introduces the macro-economic environment within which the innovation takes place and its influence on innovation strategy and management.

Learning outcome

The course begins with the larger context of global business environment and how technology/innovation has become a key factor of competitive advantage for firms. The second module discusses the macro-economics of innovation and explains the concepts such as systems of innovation. The third module deals with the micro-economics of innovation at the firm level, including the determinants of successful innovations, strategies and processes. The fourth module deals with the issues of the role of intellectual property rights in the creation, protection and appropriation of innovations. This module also discusses the concepts of entrepreneurship and the financing of innovations. The final module explains the concepts of technology markets and how they provide opportunities for entrepreneurs.
