ENT4505 - Social Entrepreneurship
Course content
In this course the students will be introduced to the field of social entrepreneurship and the best practices of starting and growing successful social mission-driven ventures or organizations. The following questions will be discussed during the course:
- What is social entrepreneurship?
- How is social entrepreneurship different from traditional entrepreneurship?
- Which skills are required to be a successful social entrepreneur?
Learning outcome
After completing this course you will be familiar with social entrepreneurship theory, the current status of this emerging field and its most important contributors. You will be able to define social entrepreneurship, and differentiate it from both business entrepreneurship and other social purpose activities. You will also be familiar with social entrepreneurship terminology and the main actors in the ecosystem of social entrepreneurship.

This course is only available for students enrolled in the Social entrepreneurship programme.
The examination in this course is not available for external candidates. Only students admitted to the course may sit for the examination.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge

Overlapping courses
5 credits overlap with ENT4500 - Social Entrepreneurship (discontinued).Teaching
Teaching will take place during four full day seminars held in Oslo in the period from mid January until March. Attendance at these seminars is compulsory. The seminars will consist of lectures and class discussions.
You will need to attend at least 80 percent of the lectures to be allowed to take the exam in this course. If you are absent more than 20 percent you will need a medical declaration for the absence, otherwise you will not pass the course.
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
You will need to attend at least 80 percent of the lectures to be allowed to take the exam in this course, as described under Teaching. The assessment for the course is based on an individual written report handed in at the end of the course. The report is based on the compulsory course readings.

Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Explanations and appeals

Resit an examination
You can usually resit an exam, but the conditions depend on whether you had a valid reason for absence from the regular exam. Read more about resitting an exam.
Withdrawal from an examination
A student may sit this exam up to 3 times. If a student wishes to withdraw from the exam, s/he must do so in StudentWeb at least two weeks prior to the first day of the exam. Failure to do so will be counted as one of the three opportunities to sit the exam.
Special examination arrangements
If you have a disability or a health problem that entails significant inconvenience in an examination situation, you may be considered for special examination arrangements. Mothers who are breastfeeding may apply for extra time to complete the exam.
