Course content

The Social Science Faculty course in the philosophy of social science and research ethics is mandatory for all phd-candidates enrolled in the faculty PhD programme. It is suggested that the students complete the course at an early stage of their work on their PhD project.

Learning outcomes

The course intends to enable students to discuss and understand their PhD research work both in terms of the philosophy of social science and in terms of research ethics. The students are to learn about the basic philosophical challenges implied in the various social science disciplines, in interdisciplinary interactions and in ethical questions arising from research itself and the interdependencies of science and society. Furthermore, the students should know about the possibilities and limitations inherent in the disciplines to which they belong, and they should be familiar with the contributions that can be expected from other disciplines.
