3rd Oslo International Symposium on Capital Punishment
The University of Oslo has recently taken the initiative to establish a network of universities against the death penalty (UADP Network). We would therefore like to take this opportunity to invite you to our inaugural conference.
This year's conference will take place at UiO's Professorboligen. Photo credit: UiO.
The UADP Network currently has over 30 members, including universities across Europe and from Africa and South America. We have the support of the Council of Europe and the International Commission against the Death Penalty, and are fully supportive with the EU’s position on the abolition of the death penalty.
The Network considers capital punishment to be not only a cruel and inhumane punishment, which fails to provide deterrence to criminal behaviour, but also an unacceptable denial of human dignity and integrity. We should also be very aware that while miscarriages of justice are inevitable, the death penalty is irreversible!
