UiO's buildings are closed until Easter
The Norwegian Government has implemented strong measures to limit the transmission of coronavirus. University buildings are closed, and students and staff work at home. More information will be provided about what this entails for the organisation and the individual.
We are working on setting up digital solutions for teaching. This is a challenging situation for our staff and students. We are now making a substantial effort to establish good digital education as soon as possible. Our staff shows great commitment and spirit, and this I am very grateful for in this situation. We ask for understanding that not all courses are ready yet, and that many are doing this for the first time, says University Director Arne Benjaminsen.
Digital solutions for teaching
All teaching activity where the students are physically present has stopped. Some digital teaching is already being conducted and more is now starting up.
In the last few days, we have facilitated digital teaching and are now rolling out digital tools for this. Students are encouraged to work on their studies as normal. They will be notified when digital teaching is availbale for their course, if this is not the case already, says Benjaminsen.
Exams with physical attendance in Silurveien are cancelled until Easter. UiO is working to put alternative assessment forms in place.
UiO staff should work at home as much as possible. Video meetings and other home office solutions are being facilitated. Staff with critical functions are still present at UiO to keep the necessary operations going. The University Director asks people to stay at home and work for UiO from where they are:
Even if the University buildings are closed, we have to keep the wheels going, says University Director Arne Benjaminsen.
