Munch's Aula decorations
It is not widely known, but the Aula decorations are Munch’s only publicly commissioned works that still hang in their original place. Inside the great hall, you are surrounded by eleven gigantic, colourful paintings that explore the big questions in life. The Aula decorations are considered a main work within Norwegian monumental painting.
If you'd like to learn more about the stories behind the Aula paintings and how Munch managed to paint in formats up to 50 square metres, you can explore the Aula project further in the exhibition Monumental at the new Munch Museum. But the result can be enjoyed in the University Aula, free of charge and right in the city centre.
