This summer and fall, Norwegian pianist Thormod Rønning Kvam is undertaking a solo tour across Norway. He has excited the audience at Blindern on several occasions, both as a soloist and chamber musician. This time, he will play Grieg, Scarlatti and Ravel for us.

Synne Sandens upcoming solo album «Imitation» is about being someone else, describing self-pity, inferiority and envy. In this concert, Synne plays solo with organ and piano and collaborates with contemporary dancer Ida Haugen. This will be naked, strong and raw.

As the title suggests, the trio plays music from all over the world. On the one hand, they have crafted and created a chamber version of Brazilian Bossa Nova by J.C.Jobim and Argentine tango by A. Piazzolla. On the other hand, they play European classical music, Beatles melodies, film music and folk music from our part of the world.

Wesendonck-Lieder is a song cycle consisting of five songs with texts by Mathilde Wesendonck (1828-1902). Richard Wagner composed music for Wesendonck's poems in 1857 and 1858 and most likely he had a platonic love relationship with Mathilde. Janne Berglund and Stefan Ibsen Zlatanos present the extraordinary beautiful songs at this week's Cultural Lunch.

Guro Kitterød on the trombone and Astrid Bjelland on the flute have both won at the Norwegian Youth Music Championships. Part of the award is to perform at the Cultural Lunch!

El Muro became known for the Norwegian television audience during the final of Norwegian Talents in May 2018 with the dance couple Cyrena & Steinar. They mix traditional Argentine tango with elements of jazz and modern music, and are known for their distinctive musical expression and a solid dose of energy on stage.

Ludometro is a jazz inspired band that started a year ago. Since then they have played at various festivals and arenas, including at Rockefeller (Oslo). Pianist Aksel Krystad and vocalist Guro Kverndokk will perform some jazz standards and self-written songs for us.

The Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra's solo harpist Sidsel Walstad returns with her golden harp and will once again share its magic tones with us. She also will bring with her her small electric harp. Will it be fuzzpedal and funky rhythms?

The Opera Orchestra's viola group leaves its pit to entertain with a program from Purcell to Star Wars. They are highly committed and talented musicians, and in this concert they will let the imagination unfold in a program for both smaller and larger ensembles. Here you can enjoy the sound of the viola in all its glory.

At this concert you will experience Franz Liszt's great masterpiece for piano, the Sonata in B minor. The work is one continuous movement of drama, thundering octaves, lyrical warmth and epic proportions.

The University Choir «Unikor» is UiO's official staff choir and has about 50 active singers. Tor Tveite is the artistic director and ensures that the choir performs with a varied repertoire in different genres and in many languages. Also this year, the choir will create a lovely Christmas atmosphere with familiar and more unknown Christmas carols.

Velvet Quartet from «Oslo Quartet Series Young», a talent development programme for young string quartets, is visiting Cultural Lunch. They will play Mendelssohn’s beautiful String Quartet no. 2 in a-minor, op.13.

With a unique sound and storytelling, this trio has made itself a name both nationally and internationally. The music can be described as a blend of jazz, blues/roots, folk and country.  Close interaction and vocal harmonies have become their foremost brand. This is intimate and genuine.

Victoria Randem and Gustav Hasfjord both study at the Oslo Opera School. They are two talented young singers who offer a varied and playful program in the beautiful courtyard outside Tøyen Hovedgård in the Botanical Garden. Olga Jørgensen accompanies.

The Opera Festival in Oslo is on this week so it is natural with some opera at our cultural lunch as well. Two of the country's best young singers, Ole Morten Velde and Siri Kval Ødegård, are newly married so it feels natural for them to sing love songs and sticky duets. In connection with this year's Kavli Prize Award Ceremony, we offer an extra Cultural Lunch with the English pianist Ian Hobson. He is much sought after both as a pianist and as conductor and has played in most of the world. Now also at Blindern.

The last time the folk rock ensemble Lady Moscow visited Cultural Lunch, the foyer of Georg Sverdrup's house turned into a steamy hot rock club full of dancing students, staff and the rest of the audience. Now the band is ready for a new visit to UiO, this time in connection with UiO's annual festival in the Science Library at Vilhelm Bjerknes' hus - with a freshly-stocked album in the suitcase!

In Slavic folklore, the Firebird is a glowing bird with magical powers. The bird can be both a blessing and a curse for the one that captures it. The Firebird program reflects the unpredictable character, like the magic bird.

March 21st 1918 Kirsten Flagstad debuted in the University aula. For this reason, we wish to pay tribute to Norway's biggest opera star with a memorial concert. This concert is a collaboration with the Kirsten Flagstad museum at Hamar.

Chet Baker told some of the strongest musical stories in jazz. Baker Hansen retell these stories in their own dialect. Famous jazz songs like "My Funny Valentine" and "Fall in love too easily" get a new life.
