Quota for compassionate leave in the HR-portal

As of 1 January, 2013, the quota for compassionate leave in the HR-portal has been changed from 90 hours to 12 days.

Why 12 days instead of 90 hours?

Section 22 of the Basic Collective Agreement (Norwegian) (lovdata.no) grants employees 12 days of compassionate leave.

Originally, this quota was registered in the HR portal as 90 hours (12 x 7,5 hours = 90 hours).

This solution proved unsatisfactory as it did not take into consideration that employees at UiO have varying working hour regulations. If for instance an employee with summer-/winter time had a need for 12 days of compassionate leave in winter, there would not be enough quota for this in the HR portal. In the summer, the same person would have been left with hours of compassionate leave he/her was not entitled to. Neither did academic staff with 8 hour work days have enough quota.

Instead of operating with a varying number of hours according to working time, the quota for compassionate leave in the HR portal has as of 1 January, 2013, been set to 12 days for all employees.

Request of compassionate leave

The quota may be requested in the HR portal for whole or half days. Leave of 0,1 - 0,6 day accounts for half a day of the quota, leave for more than 0,6 day accounts for a whole day of the quota.
