Apply for internationalization support from UiO:Life Science

Academic employees, post docs and PhD students at UiO can apply for support to strengthen the collaboration with international research environments. The application deadline was 1 June 2017.

The application deadline has passed.

UiO:Life Science is supporting internationalization in three different categories:

  1. Support to bring distinguished international scholars to UiO with the intention to create a network between UiO researchers and strong international research institutions
  2. Support to plan and establish project collaborations between researchers at UiO and international researchers
  3. Support to young researchers at UiO to travel on short stays to reputable international research groups with the aim of learning new methods and networking

Applications in category 1 and category 2 will be given priority.

For all categories, each applicant may receive a maximum of NOK 50,000.

More information about the different categories

Category 1: Support to bring distinguished international scholars to UiO with the intention to create a network between UiO researchers and strong international research institutions

To support international networking UiO:Life Science are funding visiting scholars coming to UiO. Several Centres of Excellence and other large research groups have developed their own "visiting scholar programme," where distinguished international scholars are visiting the centre for several days.

In addition to presentations of their own research these visiting scholars often participate at group meetings and familiarize themselves with individual projects and discuss this with UiO researchers individually or in small groups. Experience shows that this can be very stimulating for young researchers (PhD students etc.). Such visits provide the maximum benefit if the visiting scholar also commit to be available for advice and guidance via email and possibly come back at a later stage.

Requirements (please have ready before you start filling out the application form):

  • Description of centre/research group that is applying (maximum 1 page)
  • Description of programme for visiting scholar (maximum 1 page)
  • CV of applicant (maximum 2 pages)
  • CV of visiting scholar (maximum 2 pages)
  • Budget and total amount applied for (maximum NOK 50,000)
  • Amount financed by the applicant*
  • This can not be part of a sabbatical period for the visiting scholar

* Own finance is not required

Category 2: Support to plan and establish project collaborations between researchers at UiO and international researchers

To promote international collaboration UiO:Life Science will fund workshops for researchers with plans to establish or develop ideas for new research projects between researchers at UiO and established international researchers.

Projects that can be connected to the convergence environments (announced early May) will be given priority.

The projects must be aligned with UiO:Life Science strategy. Projects that bring in humanities and social sciences perspectives to the life science research will be given priority.

Requirements (please have ready before you start filling out the application form):

  • Description of centre/research group that is applying (maximum 1 page)
  • Participants: UiO and international researchers
  • Project description (maximum 1 page)
  • CV of main applicant (UiO) (maximum 2 pages)
  • CV of international researchers that are invited (maximum 2 pages each, maximum 10 pages in total)
  • Budget and total amount applied for (maximum NOK 50,000)
  • Amount financed by the applicant*

* Own finance is not required

Category 3: Support to young researchers at UiO to travel on short stays to reputable international research groups with the aim of learning new methods and networking

Life science research can be methodologically challenging and new methods are developing fast. UiO:Life Science will fund PhD students, post docs or researchers to visit international research groups with unique methodological expertise that can not be found locally.

The funds can not be used for participation in courses. It is required that the aim of the trip is to work in an internationally recognized research group on a (short) targeted research project.

The application must contain a plan for further action, e.g. establishment of lasting networks between UiO and the place visited. Applications from PhD students and post docs will be prioritized.

We encourage applicants funded by the Research Council of Norway or other funding agencies that support foreign exchange to apply to their funders for such support.

Requirements (please have ready before you start filling out the application form):

  • Description of center/research group to be visited (maximum 1 page)
  • Project description (maximum 1 page)
  • CV of the person who will be traveling (UiO) (maximum 2 pages)
  • CV of the head of the center/research group to be visited (maximum 2 pages)
  • Budget and total amount applied for (maximum NOK 50,000)
  • Amount financed by the applicant*

* Own finance is not required
