The choice of materials, in a wide range of products from batteries to degradable plastics, is crucial for a more sustainable future. Energy materials can produce energy, such as solar cells, or they can store energy, such as batteries or super conductors. Our researchers develop technologies that leads to e.g. batteries that charge faster. If we want to cover the surface of planes, cars or office buildings with solar cells, we will need materials with somewhat different characteristics and properties than those we have today. The development of new technologies and materials are the focal areas of the researchers at the University of Oslo within energy materials and nanotechnology.
