Fossil energy sources are still dominating the global energy system. In addition, there are significant emissions of CO2 from industrial processes. Capture and storage of carbon is therefore crucial for reaching the goal of reduced CO2 levels in the atmosphere and limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5 degrees. UiO are active partners in research centers aimed at facilitating the rapid establishment of CO2 storage through industry-driven scientific based innovation. We are working on developing the regulatory framework for transport and long-term storage of CO2 both nationally and at an European level. UiO also has research groups within natural sciences on CO2 capture, injection into reservoirs, leakage prevention and monitoring.
