Setting up wifi at home

Safety recommendations for your home router and wireless network

We recommend using and following the safety guide (Wizard) that usually comes with all new home routers. The wizard will give you a step-by-step guide. The only thing you need to do is to choose a good password. All producers usually have their own web page where you can find help for most issues.

Specific recommandations

  1. Home routers have had several safety issues, which is why we recommend updating the software or firmware on your router. Check the producers web page for guides on how to do this.
  2. Change the password for the admin user for the home router. Check the producers web page for guides on how to do this.
  3. Use encryption and authentication on the wireless network. In general, we recommend using WPA2-PSK. If you have a problem using this, WPA-PSK (version one) can also be used.
  4. Use good passwords. It should contain more than eight characters, have several symbols and not be logically connected to you in any way. Your password could for example be a sentence with more than three elements, without spaces.
