Higher Education Entrance Qualification

Applicants need to meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification in order to qualify for study programmes taught in Norwegian.

In order to be qualified for admission to study programmes taught in Norwegian, applicants must meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification (generell studiekompetanse) (NOKUT.no), including Norwegian and English language requirements (samordnaopptak.no).

Some English language tests and exams must be verified online in order to be valid, for example:

  • TOEFL, paper-based test (pBT) or internet-based test (iBT): use our institution code 0756 to add the University of Oslo as a recipient of your test result. Which department code you choose is not relevant. TOEFL older than two years cannot be verified online and is not valid.
  • IELTS: must be documented with Test Report Form with a legible TRF number in the bottom right corner.
  • Cambridge ESOL Examinations: You must send your results to the University of Oslo via the Cambridge English Candidate Results Website. Login using your 'ID number' and 'secret number' and click 'Send my result'. In addition, you must upload your Statement of Results to the application portal.
  • Pearson PTE Academic: submit your score report via your online Pearson account.

Special admission requirements

Please note that some undergraduate study programmes have special admission requirements in addition to the general requirements (website in Norwegian only).
