India is currently in the news for reaching the moon, heading the G20 group and replacing China as the world’s most populous country. But it also draws attention for the political transition initiated in 2014.
For some, this transition makes India more democratic given the way it sidelines the old elite, challenges dynastic politics and strives to overcome the residuals of a colonial past. For others, India is becoming less democratic given the way in which state institutions, the media and the business community are drawn into this project.
How does the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, relate to these questions? And where would he like to take his country, should his party alliance win the next election?
Rahul Gandhi is a member of the Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha), leader of the recently formed Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and former leader of the Indian National Congress.

The event is free but due to security reasons and limitations of space, registration is required. Please register here on your phone to obtain your entrance token, which will be checked at the entrance.
The doors open at 12.30 and will close once the event commences. No food or drinks are allowed inside the auditorium.
The University of Oslo encourages visitors, students and employees to walk, ride a bike or use public transport. For public transport, take subway (T-bane) no. 4 or 5 to Blindern, or tram no. 17 or 18 to Universitetet Blindern, and walk the remaining three minutes to Helga Enghs hus. Visitors arriving by car must use the payable parking lot in Problemveien (very limited parking).
