Required academic background (visible to UiO employees only)
You must have a bachelor’s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor’s degree.
Required specialization and minimum grade requirement
You must have a minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in the required specialization. A Norwegian C is described as a good grade, generally comparable to an American B and a Second Class Upper in the British system. We do not use conversion tables for foreign grades. All foreign education is individually evaluated during the admission process.
Please note that eligible applicants who fulfill the minimum grade requirement will compete for a study place. Please see the section on ranking for more information on selection criteria.
The required specialization consists of 80 ECTS credits and consists of:
- 50 ECTS credits at bachelor's level in subject areas offered by the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo.
- where at least 30 ECTS credits are advanced courses at bachelor's level, of which at least 10 ECTS credits are within environmental geosciences
- 30 ECTS credits at bachelor's level in subject areas mathematics / statistics / informatics / physics / mechanics / chemistry / biosciences
- 80 ECTS credits at bachelor's level within natural sciences divided into up to three of the subject areas mathematics / statistics / informatics / physics / mechanics / chemistry / biosciences
For applicants who are admitted with this background, it will be required to take 20 ECTS credits of specialized courses in geosciences, as a part of the Master’s study. See Programme structure for more information.
If you fulfill the admission requirements for Masters of Geosciences (programme option Environmental Geoscience) as the requirements were up until autumn 2017, you will qualify for this programme option until autumn 2021.
