Learning outcomes

The programme option Geohazards focuses on the deformation of snow, rock and soil when subjected to rain, flooding, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and human encroachment. The course consists of six main elements:

  • You learn how to describe and calculate the stability of mountain slopes and løsmaterialeskråninger (Geomechanics and geotechnics)
  • You learn about surveying, observation and regional risk assessment
  • You learn about extreme weather and coupling between rainfall-runoff (flood) and avalanches (avalanches, debris avalanches, mm.)
  • You learn to characterize soil / snow through field measurements and geophysical measurements
  • You learn about extreme value analysis and risk
  • You learn about the underlying physcisal processes that control the dynamics of earthquakes, volcanic systems and rock/landslides
