This programme option no longer admits students

Programme structure

The study consists either of 1 year of courses (60 credit points) plus 1 year of master thesis, or of 1 ½ year of courses (90 credit points) and a half-year long master thesis. You will usually choose a subject for your master thesis and get a supervisor during the first or second semester of your study.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

There are compulsory HSE courses at the beginning of the first semester.

In addition, from autumn 2015 HMS0505 – Electricity Safety is required for attending some courses, this is specified in the course descriptions.

You are exempted from these course requirements if you have already completed the equivalent HSE courses in relation to a bachelor programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UiO.

You can choose between two different options with two different sets of compulsory courses.

Option 1: Seismics or Seismology

This option prepares you for a thesis in seismics or seismology, and offers both 60 credit points thesis and 30 credit points thesis.

Option 2: Geodynamics

This option prepares you for a thesis in geodynamics and is particularly recommended for a thesis in relation to the Centre of Excellence CEED - Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics. This option offers 60 credit points thesis only.

Recognition of Master courses from former education

If you are admitted to the Masters Programme and you have completed Master courses outside the University of Oslo, you may apply to have these courses recognised as part of your degree. Hand in the application to the Studies administration.
