Learning outcomes

Knowledge achievements

In the specialization in Signal Processing one will learn techniques which are used in many applications in telecommunications, medicine, and sound reproduction (mp3 etc). The focus is on the development of methods and algorithms for improved imaging in sonar and medical ultrasound, the use of the ever increasing capacity of computers for better modelling of the physics, or for improved information extraction from measured data. The students have access to a tank for doing real measurements and there are possibilites for cooperation with industry.

Skills

As a student in the signal processing specialization you will learn to describe signals and systems for processing. This specialization is both theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of a good foundation in physics and applied mathematics, while the practical part is due to the fact that signal processing is used in a large spectrum of applications. These applications are for instance in telecommunications and medicine, and comprise everything from modulation and echo cancellation in a mobile phone to medical ultrasound imaging. After having finished the studies, you will be able to plan and execute large projects in a logical and effective way, as well as report and present the results in a professional way.

General competence

You will be able to reflect on the central ethical and scientific issues in relation to their own and others' work. The program will help develop your academic curiosity and give you understanding and respect for scientific values such as openness, precision, reliability and the importance of distinguishing between knowledge and opinions.
