Cost effectiveness analysis of two different bariatric surgeries in Norway based on the Oseberg study
The initiated Oseberg study is a single-centre, triple blinded randomized study that compares the effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy on different outcomes and mainly on remission of type 2 diabetes and beta cell function in subjects with morbid obesity. However, there are no cost benefit analysis as they are only looking at health outcomes in terms of benefits and not in terms of cost. There is reason to believe that there are significant differences in terms of costs as well, regarding the two type of surgeries, especially related to direct medical costs on remission of type 2 diabetes and related to reflux diseases.
For that reason, the research question for my master thesis will be the following;
In terms of costs and benefits (mainly direct medical costs and benefits related to remission of type 2 diabetes), what are the differences between Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy procedure and which strategy is optimal from a health care perspective?
This research project aims to simulate the differences between Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy in terms of medical costs related to remission of type 2 diabetes and other relevant health outcomes.
